Life in A Nursing Homes 5 Months, 1 Week ago
I am looking into moving my mom in a senior living facility but don't know what to expect. My mom is 80 years old and she has dementia. I am unable to be her full time caregiver because I am still working. I'm not even close to my retirement. I don't know the difference between assisted living and nursing homes. What I know is that seniors go to different types of senior care facility depending on their medical condition. What will be the best senior housing option for my aging mother? Will it be assisted living, nursing home or just hire a caregiver to stay with her at home instead?

It depends on what kind of senior services you are looking for. Most of Assisted Living facilities can accommodate seniors with dementia, depending on the stage. If your mom needs more medical attention, you can also put her in a Nursing home. Nursing homes provide medical support to seniors while assisted living facilities are more geared towards non-medical senior services. Another option is to hire an experienced caregiver who knows how to care for dementia or alzheimer's patients. It will also depend on your budget.

I'm in an assisted living facility and I love it here. It's like being home. Some of the residents here have early stage alzheimer's. The most important part is finding a good place for your mom.

Thanks so much for your help. I am looking for Assisted Living facilities in our area. My mom lives more than 50 miles away and I'd like to move her closer to me so I can visit her. Now, I'm learning the different senior housing options. So assisted living is more for people who can still live independently and does not require medical attention. My mom has early stage alzheimer's. I think assisted living will be a better option for her.

A nursing home is a long-term care facility licensed by the state that offers 24-hour room and board and health care services, including basic and skilled nursing care, rehabilitation, and a full range of other therapies, treatments, and programs. People who live in nursing homes are referred to as residents. There are federal laws regarding the care given in a nursing home, and it is essential that staff members become aware of these regulations. It is required that staff conduct a thorough assessment of each new resident during the first two weeks.Nursing homes provide services for those who need medical assistance, nursing care, and rehabilitation.
